A workshop under Organizational Development was conducted for the improvement of the Communication Skill of the Staff of the Diocesan Social Service Societies on 28th, 29th and 30th August, 2018 at KROSS Resource Centre, Bengaluru. 37 staff members participated in the workshop.

In his keynote address, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Fernandes, Director, KROSS said that we as social workers have to interact with the people at grassroots as well approach and interact with authorities at the Taluk and District level. Hence our communication has to be clear, concise, concrete, correct, coherent, complete and courteous so that we are able to effectively put forth our views, build rapport and convince the concerned people/authorities.

The Resource Persons explained that the communication can be in the form of:
1. Verbal Communication - where you listen to a person and understand what they want to convey
2. Non-verbal Communication - conveyed through body language (facial expression, hand movement, tone of voice) which we observe and infer the meaning
3. Written Communication – in which you read the meaning
4. Visual Communication – conveyed through pictures, graphs or photos
5. Two way communication – helps in exchange of thoughts, feelings and good for problem solving.

The workshop was facilitated through inter-active participation of the group by way of discussions, skits, counselling sessions and the approach to be adopted during home visits.

Ms Bhagyamary, CMSSS, Hassan welcomed the gathering. Ms Pushpalatha, BMSSS, Bengaluru, Ms Manjula, CMSSS, Hassan and Ms Bharathi, JVSSS, Mandya moderated the sessions. Mr. Chinnappa, BDDS, Ballari proposed the vote of thanks.
