TRAINING ON WOMEN AND LEGAL RIGHTS – 20TH & 21ST FEBRUARY 2018

A two days’ Training on Women & Legal Rights was conducted at KROSS Resource Centre, Bengaluru on 20th & 21st February 2018 which was attended by 30 participants from all over Karnataka State.

Mr. G. M. Varghese, Program Officer, KROSS welcomed the Resource Person and the participants and added that down the ages women themselves have been in the forefront to seek justice and rights enshrined to them under the constitution of India.

The Resource Person, Ms Hemalatha G. Tandel, Retd. Superintendent, Bal Mandira, Government of Karnataka covered multiple subjects like, Domestic Violence, Immoral Trafficking Act-1956, Indecent Representation of women Prohibition Act 1986, Maternity benefit Act-1961, Medical termination of Pregnancy Act 1971, Family court Act-1984, National commission for women’s rights-1990, Sexual harassment of women at work place-2013, Code of criminal procedure- 1973, Benefits to women from Government Departments and Child rights. She gave real life examples and shared her own experience in the rural villages. She said that as social workers we need to educate the rural women and be a moral support to the aggrieved women and see to it that the sections are properly recorded in the First Information Report which can only lead to proper punishment as sometimes the defendant can influence the authority and change the section and get away with any heinous deed.

The reports of both the days were well prepared and presented by the participants from ODP, KDDC, CMSSS, ORBIT, CODP & BDDS.

The first day’s session was moderated by Mr. Maruthi Naik, KDDC, Karwar and the second day’s session was moderated by Mr. Stanley Fernandes, Sampada, Udupi. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Ashok, ODP, Mysuru.
