A Seminar on Goods & Service Tax (GST) was organized and hosted by KROSS at its Resource Centre, Bengaluru on 11th September, 2016.

Rev. Fr. Sebastian Fernandes, Director, KROSS welcomed the participants who had come from all over Karnataka and asked them to be interactive by putting forth their doubts or clarifications to the Resource Person so that we are well prepared to face the realities of Goods & Service Tax.

Mr. Joseph Stanley, General Secretary, SKIP, Bengaluru introduced the Resource Person, Dr. M. Kandasami and gave a brief outline of his achievements and the seminars facilitated by him in India and abroad.

Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Lobo, Bishop of Udupi and President, KROSS inaugurated and presided over the seminar. In his keynote address he said that the burden of paying Central & State Sales Tax was more and the Government proposed to shift to Goods & Service Tax to make the taxation system simple. Though we may find it cumbersome to begin with, the benefits in long term will be appreciable and will bring transparency in the economy.

Dr. M. Kandasami, FCA who facilitated the Seminar briefed the participants on the salient features of the GST Act and then took questions from the participants and cleared the doubts expressed by them. He informed the participants that it would take some time to get used to the new system but he said that we have to make the start from today itself. At the end of the session, he prepared an action plan and told the participants that the entire action plan has to be put into action within a week’s time.

Rev. Fr. Chowrappa, Director, BDDS, Ballari and Ms Mercy D’Souza, Accountant, ODP, Mysuru shared their learnings and assured that they would put the proposed action plan into practice at the earliest.

Sr. Zita D’Souza, Project Officer, KROSS moderated the session and Rev. Fr. Santosh Bapu, Director, SSDS, Kalaburgi proposed the vote of thanks.
