Achieving Universal Primary Education

Promotion of child rights: KROSS, with its member partners, is promoting literacy among 2,40,000 children in the state of Karnataka. We have involved women in the movement to ensure primary education for all. Every self-help group member makes sure that her children get basic education. Thus, a movement has been initiated to eradicate child labour in rural regions.

Achievements

Improving effectiveness of teachers to reduce school drop-outs rate: While ensuring every child is admitted in school, we also realise the importance of a child-friendly environment in schools to retain them.

We conducted an orientation for teachers emphasizing the need for counselling and understanding children. Totally, 886 teachers participated in these two-day orientation sessions during the year. We also conducted trainings on basic counselling for 206 high school teachers.

The services of KROSS directly benefits around 6,00,000 people from 1,50,000 poor families in the South Indian state of Karnataka.
