Eradicating Extreme Poverty and Hunger

Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women
We try to improve the economic conditions of poor women and thereby enhance their social status. We do this by bringing women to form self-help groups together. The self-help groups disburse their own savings in the form of loans to the members for starting small businesses and income-generating ventures. The increased income has lifted many families from extreme poverty and improved their living conditions.
Achievements
  • The self-help groups have a total membership of 1,50,000 women and cumulative savings of Rs 1.63 crores. The money is reinvested within the group as loans for income generation, thereby reducing poverty and their dependency on moneylenders.
  • Additionally, an amount of Rs 3.64 crores have been mobilised from government schemes through collective efforts and the money has been spent on individual benefits and community development.
The services of KROSS directly benefits around 6,00,000 people from 1,50,000 poor families in the South Indian state of Karnataka.
