Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women

The Self-Help Groups formed initially to improve the economic conditions of women have expanded their scope in recent years, These women's groups and federations are actively engaged in promoting the rights of women. The Self-Help Groups try to protect their members from atrocities and violence, counsel families, and work in unity for the general welfare the community. The enhanced status of women in the community is evident in the varied roles women are playing in community development. Till date, 485 women's federations - also known as Mahasanghas - have been formed.

Our programme of enabling women is no longer exclusively managed by KROSS or its partner-organisations. It is gradually changing into a "People's movement" as the Self-Help Group members are taking on increased responsibilities. The "programme" has now transformed into a "movement" of the poor women for securing rights of women and the development of the community as a whole.
